Maple Lodge Farms celebrated the grand opening of its rebuilt Chicken Shop flagship on Friday, unveiling a $30-million facility on Winston Churchill Boulevard that the city says has added 80 jobs to Brampton's food-processing sector.
Premier Doug Ford joined Mayor Patrick Brown, members of council and Maple Lodge Farms CEO Fred Marques for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and facility tour at the new 24,000-square-foot location at 8175 Winston Churchill Blvd., according to a City of Brampton news release.
The flagship reimagines the company's long-running retail operation with expanded food-service offerings, prepared foods, a quick-service restaurant with seating, an expanded butcher shop and locally sourced products from more than 25 Ontario vendors and suppliers.
The Chicken Shop has served Brampton and surrounding communities for more than 50 years and functions as both a retail destination and a community gathering space, the release said.
Deep local roots
Maple Lodge Farms has been headquartered in Brampton since it was founded in 1955. The company is Canada's largest independent, family-owned poultry processor, employing close to 3,300 people across its operations and maintaining partnerships with local farmers and food producers.
The redevelopment is the latest in a series of investments strengthening Brampton's industrial base, the city said, pointing to recent projects from Socomec Canada, Coca-Cola Canada Bottling and Marcangelo Foods. The Economic Development Office's 2025 annual report highlights sustained growth in advanced manufacturing, food processing and innovation-driven sectors.
What officials said
Maple Lodge Farms has been an important part of our local economy for decades, and projects like this help strengthen our supply chains, support local employment and create new opportunities for businesses across the region.
Gurpartap Singh Toor, regional councillor for Wards 9 and 10 and chair of economic development, said the investment reinforces Brampton's position as a leader in food processing and advanced manufacturing.
Rowena Santos, regional councillor for Wards 1 and 5 and vice-chair of economic development, said the company's reinvestment demonstrates the strength of the local business environment and workforce, while Regional Councillor Navjit Kaur Brar said it is exciting to see a well-known local company continue to grow in the community.
The new flagship combines the company's signature retail counter with a full quick-service restaurant, which the city says improves access to fresh, locally produced food for residents across the region.
