Peel Regional Police seized a loaded illegal handgun during a traffic stop in Brampton earlier this month, bringing the number of illegal firearms the service has taken off the street this year to 112.
Officers from 21 Division's Criminal Investigation Bureau investigated a vehicle in the area of Cedarbrook Road and Edgewater Court on Monday, Aug. 10, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Peel Regional Police said.
Three people were inside the vehicle. During the interaction, police said, one of the occupants gave officers a false name and then fled the scene on foot.
A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded illegal handgun with a magazine containing ammunition, according to police.
The person who fled was found a short time later in another area and arrested. Police then learned he was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Alberta.
Three men now face charges in connection with the incident: 29-year-old Navjot Singh of Innisfail, Alta., 29-year-old Harkomal Singh of Brampton, and 23-year-old Mohobbatbir Randhawa, also of Brampton. Navjot Singh faces additional charges on top of those laid against all three, police said. The service did not specify the exact charges in its release.
"A potential threat that has been prevented"
Officers were faced with a rapidly developing situation and remained focused on ensuring everyone involved was identified and accounted for. Each firearm removed from our community represents a potential threat that has been prevented, and our officers will continue working to keep unauthorized weapons out of the hands of those who should not have them." — Deputy Chief Marc Andrews, Peel Regional Police
The seizure continues a busy year for gun recoveries across Peel Region, with the service having now confiscated 112 illegal firearms since the start of 2026.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 2133.
